One-time sends
Send a coupon to a group once: who it reaches and who is left out, when it goes, what it costs in text segments, stopping it, and the receipt.
A one-time send texts one offer to a group of people, once. You pick the people and the time, the send screen shows exactly who it will reach and what it costs, and nothing goes out until you press the button.
Send a coupon once
- From Overview, press Send an offer and pick the offer.
- From Offers, start a One-time offer, or use Send it once on an offer you already have.
- From Audience > Smart lists, press the send button on a list's card, which names how many people you can text in it: the send opens already aimed at that list.
- From Audience > Lists, use Send to this list.
Who it reaches
The Who gets it card offers four groups:
- Everyone on your list
- Not been in for 45 days
- Regulars, five visits or more
- A list…, where you pick a list you made, a list you imported, or a Square customer group
If you started from a smart list's card, that list is offered too. Your Square directory is everyone from your register, and they are all in the first option, so make a smaller list when you want to send to a group.
The number beside each option is the people you can text today. The send counts them again when you review it.
Who is left out, and why
If someone did not get the text, their reason is on one of these rows (and if the text itself failed, on the receipt). The send screen's ledger starts with everyone you picked and takes people out one reason at a time, always in this order, so every person sits on exactly one row:
- Picked
- No phone number on file
- Number we cannot read
- Opted out
- At the monthly cap
- Held back to measure
- Held for quiet hours
- Sending now
It counts again at the moment the send goes out. Anybody who opts out before then is left out of it, and anybody added to your directory after you confirm is not added to it.
When it goes
Choose Send now, Schedule, or Wait for the next open window.
We only text between 9:00am and 8:00pm on your storefront's clock, and from noon on Sundays. That is not a setting. If you pick a time outside those hours, the send screen tells you and lets you choose again rather than quietly moving it, because then the time on your screen would not be the time your customers get it. A text that is held for quiet hours is never dropped: it waits for the window.
Quiet hours run on your storefront's clock, so if Coupons does not know your storefront's time zone yet, it asks you to set it before you can send.
What it costs
The send screen counts the text segments each text uses and the total for the whole send, and shows what your balance will be afterwards. If your balance cannot cover everyone, you can send to as many as it covers, or Top up segments first.
It also tells you whether the expiry reminder will fit. If your balance runs out before the reminder goes, the reminder is skipped for everyone; nobody is part-texted.
We hold your account to 2,000 text segments a day. That is our own limit, set below what the carriers allow, and we cannot raise it for you today. A send bigger than that takes two days. Nothing is dropped, and the rest goes out on its own the next morning.
Confirm it
The button says what it will do, for example Send to a number of people now. A last check shows what arrives on a customer's phone. Every one of these is a real text to a real person, and it counts toward the 30 a month they agreed to.
You can close the page and it keeps going.
A scheduled send creates nothing until it goes: no text and no code. Until then you can Cancel the send, which turns it back into a draft with nothing spent, or Change the time, which cancels it and lets you schedule it again.
Stop a send
Stop the rest stops every text that has not gone out yet. There is no resume: if you stop, the rest have to go out as a new send. Every code already sent keeps working. Texts that were already waiting for quiet hours to end still go out when the window opens, and stopping does not change that.
The receipt
When a send finishes, its page becomes the receipt. Everybody you picked sits on exactly one row: delivered, held, or not sent, with the reason. Delivered is what the phone network confirmed; there is no such thing as an open rate for a text, so we do not show one. Redemptions show up as your counter taps Redeem, and the receipt also counts the people who opted out after it.
If some texts failed for a temporary reason, you can try those again for a while. Each person gets the code that was already made for them, so nobody ends up holding two. Texts that failed for a permanent reason cannot be retried, because trying again would spend text segments on numbers that cannot receive anything.
Each code expires counting from the text that reached that person, so if quiet hours split a send across two days, the two batches run out a day apart. People who have not used their code get the expiry reminder, unless you turned it off for this send.

Offers
Build a coupon offer: what customers get, the text that carries it, how staff redeem it, when it expires, the reminder, and how to end it.
Ladders and rungs
How a ladder texts people on its own: the group it texts, its rungs and their triggers, when each text goes, turning it on, pausing it, and its message budget.
