Thank you

Thank you, without the same three words every time

Thanking somebody is the most repeated writing a business owner does and the easiest to do on autopilot. Three drafts from a bookshop, and the rule that keeps them all legitimate.

The bit people get wrong is the offer, not the words

It is a lovely review. You want to say thank you, and you would quite like more reviews like it, and those two impulses are about to end up in the same sentence.

There is a hard line here and it is not a matter of taste. Google's content policy prohibits reviews that have been paid for directly or in kind and forbids offering payment, discounts or free goods in exchange for posting one, and the FTC rule on consumer reviews prohibits compensation conditioned on a review expressing a particular sentiment. So a thank you that carries a voucher is not a warm gesture; it is the thing that gets a profile looked at. Everything else about a thank you is craft: the specific detail, the varied opening, and the restraint to stop after two sentences.

Three kinds of kind review

A second generation customer, a one line regular, and somebody praising an event you run. The second and third cards open on the same two words, one straight after the other, which is the thing the do-not list below warns against. It is there because a draft engine will find a different detail for you every time and will not reliably find a different way in.

  • 5 out of 5Personal, and about a moment
I have been coming here since I was small and I brought my daughter in for the first time on Saturday. The bookseller spent twenty minutes helping her find something and did not once look at the clock. There are not many shops like this left.
    Priya N., on Google

    Drafted reply

Priya, thank you for this. Knowing you grew up wandering our shelves and chose to bring your daughter for her first visit means a great deal to us. Helping a young reader find just the right book, without rushing, is exactly what we hope every visit feels like. We can't wait to welcome you both back.

  • 5 out of 5Short and kind
Lovely shop, brilliant staff, and I always leave with something I did not know I wanted.
    Owen J., on Google

    Drafted reply

Thank you, Owen. Those unexpected finds are exactly what we hope for, and knowing the team made the visit special means a lot. See you next time!

  • 5 out of 5Praises one specific thing you do
The poetry evening last month was the best thing I have been to all year. Small room, good wine, and the shop stayed open late for it. Whoever organises these deserves a raise.

    Drafted reply

Thank you, Cathy. Hearing that the poetry evening was your highlight of the year genuinely means a lot to us. The intimate room and staying open late felt right for that kind of night, and we will make sure the person behind it hears every word of your praise.

Every reply marked as drafted below is verbatim output of the same engine a customer's account uses, produced by claude-opus-4-7 and frozen on the date its own card carries, the registry itself last rewritten on 2026-09-13. The wording is the engine's throughout, and the only thing the freeze script changes is the shape of the placeholder, which is why a few of them read [contact] where a contact route belongs: the engine was given a business and a review and no way to reach anybody, so it left the slot for you. Filling that in, and deciding whether you agree with the rest, is the part you do before you post it.

AI Personalities

One review, two voices

Every draft is written in a voice, and the voice is yours to pick. Below is the first review on this page answered twice, in two of the AI Personalities that come with every plan, with nothing changed between them but the voice.

Priya N., 5 out of 5 on Google
  • Heartfelt

Radiates genuine gratitude and care. References specific review details to show the reviewer was truly heard. Makes customers feel like their visit meant something special.

Priya, thank you for sharing Saturday with us, and for coming back with your daughter after all these years. Taking time with a young reader is exactly what we hope for, never a favour, so it means a lot to hear it landed that way. We'll look forward to seeing you both again.

  • Professional

Polished, formal, and diplomatic. Uses measured language and handles all situations with composure. Ideal for healthcare, legal, financial, and corporate businesses.

Thank you, Priya. Welcoming a second generation into the shop is genuinely meaningful to us, and hearing that your daughter's first visit was a good one means a great deal. Unhurried time with a reader, especially a young one, is exactly what we hope to offer. We look forward to seeing you both again.

Set a voice for the account and every draft arrives in it, or leave it on Auto and each review gets the one its own analysis calls for. Either way the draft waits for you: GetSetReply writes it, you post it.

What happens to a review before you see a draft

  • The review is read before anything is written

Every review is analyzed first: the rating, the sentiment, the themes a reader would pick out, and a closed set of risk flags (possible legal issue, safety concern, harassment or abusive language, worth checking this reviewer). The draft is written from that reading, and a review nothing usable could be read from does not get drafted at all.

  • The voice is a setting, not a house style

Pick an AI Personality for the account or let Auto choose one per review from what the analysis found. Change it on any draft and it is rewritten in the new voice, from the same reading.

  • One inbox instead of a login for each

Google, Yelp, TripAdvisor, DoorDash, Trustpilot, Etsy and Facebook arrive in one list, already analyzed and already drafted. GetSetReply writes the draft and you post it, so nothing reaches a review page until you send it.

You can try the drafting half on a review of your own without an account. Paste it into the free review response generator and read what comes back.

Warm, specific, and clean

The first two are style. The third is a rule with a regulator behind it.

Do

  • Reach for the one thing in the review only that person could have written.
  • Vary the opening across a column of replies, so the page does not read as a setting.
  • Pass on praise for a named member of staff, which is the one time naming somebody is right.
  • Stop at two sentences unless the review genuinely earned a third.

Do not

  • Do not offer a discount, a freebie or an entry into anything in exchange for a review.
  • Do not ask them to review you again for the visit they have just written about.
  • Do not turn the thank you into a paragraph about your other services.
  • Do not use the same opening sentence twice in a row on the same profile.

Questions about thanking reviewers

Can I offer a discount for leaving a review?

No. Google's content policy prohibits reviews paid for directly or in kind and specifically names discounts and free goods, and the FTC rule prohibits compensation conditioned on a review expressing a particular sentiment. Invite people to review you and offer them nothing for it.

Can I ask customers for reviews at all?

Yes. Asking is fine, and asking everybody is fine. What is not fine is attaching anything of value to the ask, or steering who gets asked based on how they seem to feel.

How do I keep thank yous from sounding identical?

Anchor each one to a different detail and change the first four words. If a review has no detail in it, make the reply shorter rather than more flowery.

Is a thank you worth writing on a four star review?

Very much so. A four star review usually contains one small reservation, and a thank you that acknowledges it without arguing is the most persuasive reply on most profiles.

Never the same twice

Sixteen reviews, sixteen drafts to check

Every thank you is written from that review alone, so no two drafts come out the same.
